Anyone use these reprints? I'm curious as to the quality (esp since it would be nice to have access to the weekday Reza on my Kindle)?
Aside from standing for each Qaddish, what other areas of overlap are there between Portuguese and German Israelite custom?
Is KST the closest thing we have to something like Shorshei Minhag Ashkenaz?
Question about Shahrith: it seems in London, after Birkath Hatorah and the recitation of Birkath Kohanim, the Qorbanoth are not read aloud on weekdays. Does this mean there is silence for 10-15 minutes while the qahal reads Aqedath Yitzhaq and the Qorbanoth, or do they immediately skip to Hodu? What is the custom in NY/Philadelphia and Amsterdam? I've only been to Mikveh Israel on Shabbat.
Is there anything out there, similar to KST, but about non-liturgical practice? For example, Moroccans have Divrei Shalom Veemeth, which points out where their practice differs from the halakhoth recorded in Yalquth Yosef. And before anyone says to go to the Shulhan Arukh, before ROY, I don't think anyone claimed to follow the SA 100%.
For those of us who do not live in or near S&P communities, how do you maintain the tradition and (if applicable) impart it to your children (especially those who did not inherit this tradition from their families)? My options are three varieties of Ashkenazi, Habad, and Syrian-Yerushalmi (thankfully, this last is Syrian in terms of nusah hatefilla only and does not subscribe to the Taqana). At the...
Which S&P siddur and mahzor have the *least* amount of page flipping (besides the Koren Shabbat Humash)?
I've always heard that Ashkenazim allow women to say berakhoth for mitzvoth they are not obligated in (such as lulav) and Sephardim don't allow it. TIL that the Ben Ish Hai and Hokhmei ha-Ma'arav allow it. What was/is the S&P stance?
What system should be used for transliteration in group projects for helping people learn the tefilloth?https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romanization_of_Hebrew
How can we easily get texts of the prayers with both English translation AND transliteration? My wife doesn't know Hebrew well enough to read the tefilloth with our kids, and the only thing on the market now is put out by the SY community. I'm sure this is something that could help a lot of people.
Was the custom in Suriname the same as the custom in Amsterdam?
Anyone know of PDF or other digital format of the daily Tefilloth that I could drop onto my Kindle?
How can we garner enough demand to request additional reza books from Koren? I'd like to start something so that we can get weekday, holiday, and fast day books printed, even if it is a group buy or something.
Those of you who don't have the blessing of praying with a Western Sephardic qahal - do you pray with Ashkenazi or Sephardic congregants, and do you use one of our reza books, or a different one?I'm stuck with an Israeli - Sephardic qahal, and fluctuate between one of our books and Livorno texts. And I've no idea what to do about teaching my kids.
Does the Esnoga in Amsterdam sell copies of the siddur?
This is more of a history question than anything else, although it does touch on one of the more unseemly points in our history, so let me know if I should repost to the debate. Roughly when did the exclusion of Coloured Sephardim start, and what was the state of the liturgy at that time?
Looking for resources on any unique or paticular minhajim or cuisine of the Caribbean communities.
If anyone stateside wants a full set of the London prayer books, send me a message.
Is the Florentine/Firenze siddur still in print?
Officially one of the silliest questions ever, but does anyone have tips om navigating the London prayer book when not praying with a S&P quehilla? I've tried using book darts to mark where I need to skip around to, but that was just as cumbersome for the daily book and they don't work well for the thin paper prints.
Thought I would share this resource:
Can anyone here bug the folks at Heshaim for me? I'd like to know if my mahzorim will cross the pond in time for R"H.
Need some sourced on Ottoman minhagim, please!
What is the formula for a girl when being named? I know a boy is "hayeled piloni bar piloni family name." Is a girl basically the same, just with the feminine forms?Aslo, is the naming done on Shabbat or the next Torah reading?
Not sure if this belongs here or in one of the other groups...What are the other areas in which Iberian exiles settled outside of NW Europe and the Americas? I know Florence and Livorno, Gibraltar, Oran, and Tlmecen... how different were the minhagim in those locations?
