Just discovered a searchable newspaper archive, "La Vigie Marocaine," for those who are not aware of this publication. The link below will direct you to the available issues by date. Some issues (not all, especially during the war years) have a section titled "etat civil," where you can find dates regarding births and deaths. As far as I can tell, this was a newspaper directed at "les colons," but while browsing through a number of issues, I did notice a preponderance of Moroccan Jewish names...

I've been trying to locate the graves of family members who died in Israel. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't find a single person! I don't know the specific cemeteries, but I do know where they lived-- Dimona, Maalot, Lod, and Peqi'in. I was under the impression that all deaths in Israel are recorded...Also, I can't find any immigration records for my many family members who immigrated from Casablanca to Israel in the early 1960s. Any suggestions?
Three questions:1. Has anyone ever heard the female first name "Etau"? Is it short for Etoile? Wasn't "Etoile" "Nedjma" BF (before French)?2. Is it true that Beloria= ברוריה? Wouldn't that be an unnecessary substitution of L for R in Arabic/Hebrew? Tamazigh? (Belour)= "crystal" in Arabic-- same idea as "Perla," no?3. Anybody else have either name in your family?

The Province of ErrachidiaThe large and rather unwieldy Draa-Tafilalet region of Morocco consists of five provinces: Midelt, Errachidia, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, and Zagora. I will deal with each separately because they are vastly different from one another in terms of climate, geography, and economic history. These differences are reflected in the unique nature of the Jewish communities that developed there. The province of Errachidia first gained prominence in the year 757 CE with the establishment...
Can't find the place "Tamerzat" on any map. Zédé Schulmann took several photos there. Anyone? 1950.
Ladies from Tinghir
The postcard indicates they are Moroccan, but when I did a Google image search, the caption said they were from Thessaloniki. Anyone?
