Question: What is the S&P Minhag for observing a nahala in a leap year?Generally: Ashkenazim observe an Adar anniversary in Adar I while Sephardim observe Adar anniversaries in Adar II (veAdar.) Some people actually observe it in both months. A good overview of the sources is here: http://www.schechter.edu/when-a-person-passed-away-in-adar-when-is-the-yahrzeit-observed-in-a-leap-year/I had thought that S&P Minhag was the same as other Sephardim and that anniversaries in Adar should in leap years be observed in VeAdar (i.e. Adar II.) (*Except for calculating the 11 months and first year of mourning.) However today I see that perhaps S&P Minhag is to observe such anniversaries in Adar I. The Mekor Hayyim (Mourners' Handbook) by Dr. Henry Pereira Mendes -says that the custom is to observe an Adar anniversary in ADAR I in leap years. I am not looking to open up a large debate here about Ashkenazic versus Sephardic practice - but I am interested in knowing how this specific issue is observed in other S&P communities - and in particular what the S&P sources say. Does any one have access to the mourners guidebooks from London or Amsterdam?
