Below is a photograph of David Aaron de Sola (1796-1860) - Minister at Bevis Marks- London; translator of the prayer book, compiler of the Ancient Melodies, composer of Adon Olam, etc.) When I first saw it - I thought it was a very famous photograph that I have seen elsewhere; but looking online I was unable to find it elsewhere. Can anyone in this group let me know where else this photo appears? The photograph was found in Shearith Israel's archives in the papers of Henry Pereira Mendes (a grandson of D.A. de Sola.) This photo seems to be the basis for the pencil drawing portrait that appears in the Jewish Encyclopedia. If anyone here makes use this photo - please credit the *Shearith Israel Archives*. (And if it is ever needed for publication, I can probably arrange for it to be photographed with better lighting.)
