Synagogue of Shangarai Shamayim, Mobile, ALI am not sure if when this building was consecrated in 1858, the congregation still followed the Portuguese rite, but I think it did. Not all members agreed that the Portuguese rite should be followed, and in 1855 some members left to found another congregation, Dorshey Zedek. Only in 1859 the two reunited.
