Vous êtes peut-être comme moi, mes parents ou mes grands-parents, au moins en partie le produit de l'alliance. Son action au Maroc a été déterminante de l’entrée à pieds joints de la société juive marocaine dans le 20e siècle. Elle a aiguisé sa volonté « d’émancipation » et d’européanisation. Selon certains, cela aurait contribué à éloigner de nombreux juifs de pratiques religieuses séculaires et de l’étude des textes sacrés. Dans de nombreuses familles, c’est l’Alliance qui a été responsable du remplacement de la langue judéo-arabe vernaculaire par le français. Mais c’est aussi elle qui nous a préparés à l’inévitable départ et à un ailleurs possible, notamment en France et au Canada. La petite fille que j’étais et qui, en 1964 ou 1965 en primaire à l'école Semach, avait été choisie par son institutrice pour déclamer un discours de bienvenue à René Cassin, Prix Nobel et Président de l’AUI, au nom de tous les enfants de l'Alliance quand il visita le Maroc dit MERCI ! Merci à cette généreuse institution. Merci à ses institutrices et à ses instituteurs, qui se sont le plus souvent expatriés de leur propre pays pour faire découvrir à nos grands-parents, à nos parents ou à nous-même les fables de La Fontaine, Victor Hugo et les romantiques du 19e siècle. Ils ont su susciter notre curiosité, ils nous ont donné le goût de l’effort et la volonté d’apprendre. Vous avez encore été très nombreux à nous rejoindre cette semaine et malgré le nombre (et la longueur du post) nous voulons ici continuer à vous accueillir chacun personnellement.
