# La fête de Souccot de mon enfanceSouccot restera dans mon souvenir une des plus joyeuses fêtes que nous célébrions au Maroc. Nous construisions notre soucca sur la terrasse de l’immeuble art déco que nous habitions au centre-ville de Casablanca. Mon père montait l’armature en métal que nous réutilisions tous les ans. Il rapportait des tiges de roseaux qui constitueraient les murs et de larges feuilles de palmier pour le s’khakh. Nous, les enfants, nous chargions de la décoration. Pour l’occasion, mon père ramenait des montagnes de feuilles de papier de couleurs chatoyantes, coupées dans le sens de la longueur, que nous utilisions pour fabriquer des dizaines de mètres de guirlandes colorées. Lesquelles guirlandes étaient ensuite fixées sur les murs tapissés d’étoffe et sous le toit de la soucca orné de fruits et de legumes. Pendant la fête, nous y prenions nos repas tous ensemble, famille, voisins et amis, dans un joyeux tumulte. Je garde un souvenir impérissable de ces heureux moments au cours desquels il y avait des allées et venues incessantes entre les cuisines des appartements — toutes accessibles par l’accès de service qui menait à la terrasse. Tous les convives partageaient une multitude d’entrées et de plats, ici une soupe de Fez, là une hada de Meknès ou une pâtisserie de Marrakech. C’était la fête !Les jours de Yom Tov, la soucca accueillait l’ensemble de la synagogue — je ne me rappelle pas que la synagogue du DEJJ, Boulevard du 11 janvier, avait une soucca — pour une séouda. À la fin de Souccot, la nuit d’étude de Hoshahana Raba se déroulait le plus souvent chez Maurice et Lina Corcos, une occasion pour nous (les enfants) de veiller et de lutter contre le sommeil en écoutant nos pères psalmodier et nos mères discuter. Bienvenue à tous ceux qui nous ont rejoints cette semaine, shabbat shalom et bonnes fêtes de Souccot à tous. # The Sukkot Festival of my childhoodSukkot will remain in my memory one of the most joyful holidays we celebrated in Morocco. We used to build our sukkah on the terrace of the “art deco” building we lived in downtown Casablanca.My father mounted the metal frame that we reused every year. He brought back stems of reeds that would constitute the walls and wide palm leaves for the s'khakh. We, the children, were in charge of the decoration. For the occasion, my father would bring back mountains of shimmering sheets of paper, cut lengthwise, which we used to make tens of meters of colorful garlands. The garlands were then fixed on the walls lined with cloth and under the roof of the sukkah garnished with fruits and vegetables.During Souccot, we took our meals together, family, neighbors and friends in a joyful tumult. I have vivid memories of those happy moments when there were incessant comings and goings between the kitchens of the apartments — all accessible by the service access that led to the terrace. All the guests shared a multitude of appetizers and dishes, here a soup of Fez, there a hada of Meknes or a pastry of Marrakech.
