At last an image of Jacob Franco Lagarto's handwritten note of ownership from his copy of 'Shefa Tal' has come to the surface ! I suppose that when I tried to obtain a photograph, I was considered to be trying to punch above my weight ! LOL Please note, this image is not mine, and it is only being used for educational purposes, the red dots are to try to prevent it being copied, as several images from my articles and posts are appearing in Wikipedia. Jacob Lagarto was the Haham of the Sephardic congregation on the island of Itamaracá, during the Dutch occupation, which, unlike Recife, only lasted from 1633 until 1644/5 and the start of the Pernambucan Insurrection. In 1646 the Dutch were forced to retreat from Vila Velha to their Fort Orange, where they remained under siege for eight years until the recovery of Brazil by the Portuguese in 1654. The rest of the island and the main community, Vila Velha, remained under portuguese control during those eight years. The Sephardic Congregation undoubtedly abandoned the island in 1644 and moved to Recife, (Santo Antonio), where I believe they rebuilt their temple "Magen Abraham'.
