Quand, au milieu des années 1950, sa famille vient le chercher avant le grand départ pour Israël, Haim refuse de les suivre. Sa famille c’est nous ! Après le tremblement de terre d’Agadir, il grimpe avec nous tous dans la de Sotto familiale, pour fuir le malheur. Il nous suit ensuite à Casablanca où il s’installe et travaille. Haim est fier d’avoir entre les mains son passeport marocain, quand il nous accompagne au cours de nos nombreux voyages en Europe et lorsqu’en 1973 il émigre avec mes parents en France, craignant pour leur sécurité après un 2e coup d’État avorté contre le roi Hassan II. Quand il m’arrive de me promener avec lui, adolescente à Casablanca ou adulte à Paris, il interpelle toutes les personnes qu’il rencontre, disant avec une fierté à peine contenue « c’est ma sœur ! ».
