8 fév. 2023English below# **Recueil de textes historiques judéo-marocains**Il s’agit d’une rare compilation de chroniques datant du 16eau 19e siècle de rabbins de Fès, pour la plupart de la lignée Iben Danan (Abendanan, Bendanan). Ces textes relatent des faits historiques qui ont jalonné l’histoire du Maroc et des évènements malheureux dus aux conditions climatiques, aux épidémies ou aux sévices, exactions et autres persécutions dont furent victimes les juifs de l’époque. S’ensuivirent multitudes de jeûnes, prières de clémence au Tout Puissant et de grandes campagnes de Tsedaka (aumône) quand ces prières étaient exaucées.## En voici un court extrait :*En 5371 (*automne 1610*) il nous arriva un grand malheur. Mulay Zidan sous la protection de qui nous pensions vivre prit contre nous une mesure sévère. Le samedi 8 Tisri (*15/25 septembre 1610*) le cruel Ba Rihan vint exiger des Juifs dix mille onces par ordre du sultan, parce que celui-ci les avait sauvés lorsque les Gentils étaient venus piller leur Mellah. Il ajouta que s'ils ne [lui] remettaient pas cette somme avant la nuit, le lendemain ils payeraient le double. On commença à lever cette somme, mais la journée n'y suffit point. Le lendemain il vint exiger vingt mille onces. Il en résulta un grand trouble dans la ville le soir même du Kippur et, à cause de nos péchés, le saint jour de Kippur fut profané. Toute la journée et toute la nuit passa à la collecte de l'argent. Les docteurs se lamentaient amèrement. A cela s'ajoutèrent d'autres malheurs. Etc…*L’originalité de ces chronique est que les rédacteurs étaient contemporains des évènements. Les faits sont précis, datés et… parfois chiffrés. En effet, au minimum, il s’agit de taxes indues que les puissants leur imposaient.Il est probable que seuls les malheurs sont rapportés dans ces chroniques. There followed many fasts, prayers of mercy to the Almighty, and great campaigns of tzedakah (almsgiving) when these prayers were answered.## Here is a short excerpt :*In 5371 (*autumn 1610*) a great misfortune befell us. Mulay Zidan under whose protection we thought we were living took a severe measure against us. On Saturday, September 8 (*September 15/25, 1610*) the cruel Ba Rihan came to demand ten thousand ounces from the Jews by order of the sultan, because the latter had saved them when the Gentiles had come to plunder their Mellah. He added that if they did not remit this sum before night, the next day they would pay double. This sum began to be raised, but the day was not enough. The next day he came to demand twenty thousand ounces. The result was great trouble in the city on the evening of Kippur and, because of our sins, the holy day of Kippur was desecrated. All day and night passed to the collection of money. The doctors lamented bitterly. To this were added other misfortunes. Etc...*The originality of these chronicles is that the writers were alive during these events. The facts are accurate, dated and... sometimes were given a cost. Indeed, at the very least, these are undue taxes imposed on Jews by the powerful Sultans.It is likely that only misfortunes are reported in these chronicles.
