Hello all, I am researching part of my family - the De Pinna family of London. I recently gained access to some of the Bevis Mark's records and was confused to find that two of my 3x great uncles are listed in their marriage records as "Proselytes" (I've included one of these records below). I'm confused by this because De Pinna is a Sephardic Jewish name (confirmed in many locations), and their mother was Caroline Cohen, who I can only assume was also Jewish. Would they not have been Jewish from birth? Why would they be listed as proselytes / converts? (Note that I haven't been able to find the record for my 3x great grandfather or any of his other siblings, so I don't know how they were listed in their records.)
