Ian Pomerantz, your response pointing towards your participation on the Sephardic musicology roundtable from a few years ago, reminded me. My grandfather's family was very steeped in the Turkish Maftirim tradition, his grandfather and great-grandfather were Hazanim in Izmir. Dov Cohen found this extract from the Izmirli newspaper "El Nouvelista" concerning my great-great grandfather Hazan Yaacov Rebi and his nephew-in-law the famed Hazan Itzhak Algazi and their participation in teaching Turkish Classical music in the community. He provides the following transliteration to latin characters and summary.
