Hello everyone. I am curious whether Dutch citizens were required to obtain government permission before they traveled either abroad or to the Dutch colonies in the Caribbean during the early 19th century. If yes, do any documents exist that would record permission? So far, the only evidence of arrivals and departures I could find was in the local Paramaribo, Suriname newspaper in the form of advertisements announcing the departures. Below is an announcement of the departure of my 4th great grandfather, Abraham Aletrino. It seems he traveled often. Thanks for your advice.
