Hello Everyone. I have been researching the Nunes Vaz family for sometime and have been trying to work through the brick-wall on the line. I thought a community of minds looking at it might be able to offer a bit of help, hope I'm not asking for too much. I wrote an article detailing what I know on the origins of the family thus far, so if you want more details than what I put in this post please follow the link; https://sephardicgenealogy.blogspot.com/2015/10/origins-of-nunes-vaz-family-of-amsterdam.htmlAt the moment the oldest known member of the family is Abraham Nunes Vaz who was born circa 1670. His son Jacob Nunes Vaz was born in 1697 in Livorno, Italy and married Judith Falcao/Van Der Valk. From the records Michael pulled up for me it seems that Abraham died before Jacob's marriage in 17233. There is another branch of the family still in Italy whose oldest known member is Isaac Joseph Nunes Vais (died 1768). The families have known of each other for years and we are currently in touch with some of them but we are trying to prove the relation, and yes we are currently working to get DNA testing done, but I am hoping to figure out the exact relation with the paper trail. Isaac Nunes Vais and Jacob Nunes Vaz were both printers, which I think may have been part of Jacob's motivation to relocate to Amsterdam. I haven't been able to figure out an approximate birth year for Isaac but it is possible Isaac and Jacob are brothers based on Isaac's death date and Jacob's birth date but we have nothing to prove that theory. Michael was also kind enough to pull up a marriage announcement I had not seen with an Aron Nunes Vaz marrying a Lea Ribera in 1727 listing Aron as the brother of Abraham. It's very interesting because in Jacob's (also attached) he has a niece named Sara Ribeiro who is a witness. Jacob's first son (at least first documented son I have found) was named Aron Nunes Vaz (1733-1745). Very much looking forward to any ideas or information anyone can pull up to link the Italian and Dutch branches as well as anything anyone may have on the Nunes Vaz/Nunes Vaes/Nunes Vais/Nunes Vaaz family in the 17th and early 18th century.
