If this subject has been discussed, I apologize. I was wondering about the ancestry of the famous Hazan Isaac Touro of Newport (and father of the equally famous philanthropist Judah Touro). Stanley Mirvis, in his terrific new book on 18th Century Jamaican Jews, states that Isaac was was the son of Port Royal merchant Moses Touro (pg 8); on the other hand, Malcolm Stern in his First American Jewish Families states that Isaac was the son of an Abraham Touro (pg 300).Does this 1772 receipt concerning the Wills of the sisters Sara and Ribca Tartas help here? I believe the documents refers to a 1771 power of attorney given by an Isaac de Abraham Touro to Aron de Abraham de Moses Touro I cannot read the document but it clearly references Newport and Henry Ward, who appears to be the same Henry Ward, Secretary State of Rhode Island. Is this Hazan Isaac? Thanks!https://archief.amsterdam/.../start/70/limit/10/highlight/6
