I have attached an image from a 1644 “Confession book” from Amsterdam. The attached page is from the middle of a series of entries relating to the possibly nefarious activities of Elias/Eliezer Sacuto and others (Gracia Sacuto, Moses Atthias and others). Although probably interesting itself, I am focusing on (and asking for help with) a Samuel Fernandes mentioned in the middle right side of image. I cannot make out his alias (perhaps Israel), and though it may say he is from Hamburg, I see references to Middleburg and Rotterdam. I was wondering whether he is Samuel Touro discussed a few weeks ago, but using one of the family’s traditional aliases—a variation of Fernandes/Rodrigues Vega.Here is the link to the page.
