A few images I made at the exhibition "Joods Den Haag" "Jewish The Hague" Here we see Joseph de Pinto (1732-1801) and his wife Ester Lopes Suasso (1739-1821). He is a descendant of Manue Alvares Pinto aka Isaac Pinto, she must have been a relative of baron Lopes Suasso, whom we discussed here before. Joseph de Pinto was one of the founders of the society Talmidel Tsadiek in 1787, named after Tsadiek Moses Belinfante. All the founders of the society were pupils of Belinfante. Talmidel Tsadek was inspired by the Haskalah and strived for Jewish education in Dutch. I want to add that 1787 was also the year of great political upheaval in Holland putting the "Patriotten" against the "Orangists". They indeed published the first Sephardic prayerbook in Dutch, The title: Gebeden der Portugeesche Jooden uit het Hebreeeuwsch vertaald, 1791, by Lion Cohen, 's-Gravenhaage.
