I am making may way through images I took of the Surinaamsche Courante ca. 1811-12. The Surinaamsche Courante was the main newspaper of the era in Paramaribo (Surinam). Since Jews were a large proportion of the urban population, they often figure in the advertisements. I thought I would post a few samples so people could see what sorts of interesting tidbits one can pick up from newspapers. These years were during the British occupation, so the newspaper was bilingual. I have tried to include examples of the range of items Jews did.Scans are from the microfilm at the University of Florida libraries where they have a very complete collection of this newspaper.
