**Dutch Nunes Vaz Family**Many know my main focus in research is the Nunes Vaz family, with a focus on finding living descendants. I decided to make a graph of the Dutch branch of the Nunes Vaz family, showing the descendants of Abraham Nunes Vaz (born circa 1670 in Livorno), which has 4600 family members. It was made using https://learnforeverlearn.com/ancestors/ and Canva. Adding in a line to represent 1945 (an idea I got from Lara Diamond - https://larasgenealogy.blogspot.com/2020/01/visualizing-holocausts-impact.html), it really shows how certain branches were affected more by the Holocaust. The majority of the children of Abraham Nunes Vaz and Sarah Lopes Dias left Amsterdam in the 19th century and this branch was thus the least affected by the Holocaust. I think this is quite obvious just by looking at the graph, but with a ratio of 968 living descendants out of 1510 total descendants (64.1%), it gives us a (very rough) idea of how large each branch might have been had they not been affected by the Holocaust. The most affected branch was that of Mordechay Nunes Vaz with 16 living descendants of 86 total descendants. Mordechay had two wives, who were both daughters of Abraham Nunes Vaz and Jael Senior Coronel. The branch of Aaron Nunes Vaz and Sarah Oheb Brandao was also affected quite badly with 183 living descendants out of 835 total descendants (21.9%). Although, one thing to note with this branch is that it is one I have been working to extend and the numbers may be lower just because I haven't been able to connect with as many descendants yet.The other branches all hover around a 25%-30% ratio, except for the descendants of Moses Nunes Vaz and Abigael Carança, who have 56 living descendants out of 101 total descendants (55.4%). This is because Moses' oldest son Daniel Nunes Vaz immigrated to London in the 19th century (this branch changed their surname to Nunas), so the branch was not affected by the Holocaust. There is still a lot of research needed to identify if Moses' other children had any descendants, but none have been identified yet. Some other interesting notes. A total of 130 descendants are descended from Abraham Nunes Vaz (c. 1670) in multiple ways (these are the swoops you see going across lines). I've made contact with multiple living descendants of every branch of the family. Descendants of the family span the World, with the majority living in English speaking countries (UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada), although there are also many in the Netherlands and Israel.
