This is a section of a chapter titled "Some ironic consequences of Maimonides' rationalist approach to the messianic age", written by Dr. David Berger and published in "The Legacy of Maimonides: Religion, Reason and Community" (Ed's. Yamin Levy and Shalom Carmy).Dr. Berger argues that his last 2 chapters in Hilchot Malachim (Mishne Torah) are worded in such way that may be interpreted very broadly and used for an agenda in a messianic movement. The reason why I am posting this section here is because he uses the case of Hakham Yaaqob Sasportas and his opposition to sabbateans to prove his point. Arguing that, if it weren't because of these section of the MT, H. Sasportas may have provided arguments agaisnt sabbateans in an easier way. I think this section involves an important part of the SP heritage. However, if the adminis don't think this fits the forum, feel free to delete.
