*Speaking for the Silenced**Sephardic World, Sunday 17 July 2022**With Richard Zimler****Richard Zimler*** is best-known for his novel, The Last Kabbalist of Lisbon. As a writer, and especially as a Jewish writer living in Portugal, he is interested in telling the forgotten stories of those who were on the losing side of history. Inevitably, he is fascinated by the history of the Portuguese Jews who have largely been erased from Portuguese memory. Sephardic history is often misrepresented and we are delighted to welcome a writer who treats the subject seriously and with sensitivity. In his talk, he will discuss what he has discovered about Portuguese Jewish history and how he explored the lives of Sephardic Jews in his books. He will also discuss his new novel, The Incandescent Threads.***Richard's*** Sephardic Cycle, a group of freestanding works, explores the lives of different generations of a Portuguese-Jewish family. His novels have been translated into 23 languages and have appeared on bestseller lists in 12 countries, including the USA, UK, Italy, Portugal, and Brazil. His new novel, The Incandescent Threads, has just been published in Britain and Ireland and will come out in America in November. Richard has lived in Portugal since 1990. In 2017, he was awarded Porto’s highest honor, the Medal of Honor.
