## *IN CONVERSATION WITH MARK PONTE*## *SEPHARDIC WORLD, SUNDAY 5 FEBRUARY 2023****Mark Ponte*** is best known for his research on slavery and black Amsterdammers, but this is just part of his work on the history of Amsterdam, the early modern Sephardim, and the Dutch Atlantic empire, including Brazil, Suriname, and Curaçao. This week we shall discuss this history. It is an opportunity to listen to and put your questions to Mark, who is on track to become a leading academic in the field.***Mark Ponte*** is a historian working on Early Modern migration and slavery in Amsterdam and the Dutch Atlantic. He works at the Amsterdam City Archives as a researcher and curator. In recent years he has mainly published on Black Amsterdammers in the 17th Century, including their ties to the Sephardic Community of Amsterdam. He was researcher and author for the exhibition Black in Rembrandt's Time in the Rembrandt House Museum (2020) and created the exhibition 'Amsterdammers and Slavery’ (2021) at the City Archives, currently, he is working on a new exhibition about Trans-Atlantic Families in Suriname and Amsterdam.
