## ***THE BEVIS MARKS SYNAGOGUE STORY - CELEBRATING OVER 300 YEARS***## ***WITH MARILYN SCOTT***## ***SEPHARDIC WORLD, SUNDAY 26 FEBRUARY 2023***Supported by the UK's National Heritage, a major new development at London's Bevis Marks synagogue includes a new visitor center. Marilyn Scott, the project's heritage advisor, is charged with both preserving the fabric and collections of the three hundred-year-old synagogue while making it accessible to a general audience. She will discuss the unique challenges of the project. Completed in 1701, Bevis Marks is the oldest synagogue in use in the UK. Despite facing threats of demolition and bombings, it has survived and become a symbol of resilience and tradition. The synagogue's collection, which includes Torah scrolls, silver items, books, and furniture, is the oldest and most complete of any Jewish establishment in the UK and one of the most complete in Europe. The synagogue's collections are being restored, preserved, and catalogued to contemporary museum standards.***Marilyn Scott*** is heritage advisor to the Board of The Bevis Marks Synagogue Heritage Foundation. Marilyn was formerly the Director of award-winning museum and gallery The Lightbox – her expertise encompasses collections management, business planning, governance, strategic development and management, fundraising and membership. She has advised a range of organisations over the last ten years on their business models, governance, and sustainable development. She is a consultant for The National Lottery Heritage Fund and works for them on a wide range of heritage projects throughout the country.
