## ***THE ALMOSNINO FAMILY***## ***WITH NATHANIEL FAROUZ***## ***SEPHARDIC WORLD, SUNDAY 16 APRIL 2023****The Almosnino family* has roots in medieval Spain, specifically in Aragon. Since some members of the family oversaw the Tzedaka (charity) institution in Jaca, it is thought that the family name "Almosnino" derives from this responsibility. After 1492, one branch of the family – probably the most famous one – moved to Saloniki and then expanded across the Balkans. Another branch settled in Fez and subsequently spread throughout Morocco, Algeria, Gibraltar, England, and France. Both branches produced renowned rabbis, poets, community leaders, and even international traders.***Nathaniel Farouz*** is a descendant of the Moroccan branch of the family, on which he has focused his genealogical research over the past few years. In his presentation, he will share his sources and methodology while also revealing fascinating stories about his ancestors. He believes that these stories will shed light on the daily lives of eastern Sephardic people over the past five centuries.***Nathaniel Farouz*** is a French and (recently naturalized) Portuguese national, of Moroccan and Algerian descent. Born and raised in Bordeaux, he has a deep connection with the Portuguese-Jewish rite and traditions. For most of his adult life, Nathaniel has lived in Asia, where he specializes in business development, investment, and market entry strategies. He currently operates an elder care business in Singapore and China. Nathaniel studied public affairs, business, and anthropology at Sciences Po Paris, HEC Paris, and Harvard University.
