The Chakham Gaguine writes in כתר שם טוב חלק א-ב דקס"ב:בלונדון נוהגים קודם ערבית לומר שיר המעלות הנה ברכו ( תהילים קל"ד) ו אומרים אח"כ הפסוקים אלו ה' צבאות עמנו וכו'...אבל המנהג בא"י לומר רק ג' פסוקים וכו'...וכן המנהג באמשטרדם ובמארוקו.However in all the Amsterdam Tefilloth (printed in the years1838, 1909, 1950) you will find the Shir hammangaloth and not only 3 but more pesuqqim. In his footnotes Chakham Gaguine writes: טעם שבא"י ואמשטרדם נהגו לומר רק הצג' פסוקים וכו'...כ' הרב הנגיד ומצוה שהאר"י ז"ל לא היה אומר שום מזמור קודם ערבית רק היה אומר פסוקים אלו שהזכרנו, וכו".So, did the Amsterdam Portuguese Jews' community follow the opinion of the Ari z"l, or did they use to say the mizmor and later on they changed the minhag for some reason?
