I had an idea last night, in light of the recent discussion about what can we do to about preserving our tradition and of reaching those who are interested in "re-claiming" their tradition. With the High Hollidays approaching, and especially Yom HaKipurim and all its significance, I, as one "rediscovering" my roots so to speak, would love to read form each one of the members of this group a short essay or paragraph on the significance of Yom Ha Kipurim and how it relates to each one of you personally, how to prepare fo that day, how it affects you. We all share one tradition, but we all have different viewpoints within the tradition. Let everyone share theirs that we may see the richness of our tradition. If we will all contribute to this effort to preserve the tradition (which is more than liturgy) this would be a great start, by explaining our tradition to those who wish to learn. No need to be a rabbi or a learned haham. This way when we listen to the wonderful melodies, we will take away more than just a nice musical experience, we will carry within us the experience of many of our nation on that day, and even if we are scattered in different places we will somehow be united in thought on that day. Please comment if you are interested in contributing. Thank you and boas entradas de Sabat!
