There is a type of cake that is found in different Sephardic communities, going by different names. In Amsterdam it was called "boole fliado" and in Surinam "fiadoe/fiade/fiyadu". What does that mean? I assume it's originally a Portuguese word. The dutch recipe I have uses "fliaar" as a verb in the recipe. "fliaar it [flattened pieces of dough] with warm butter 3 or 4 times...".
