This got on my mind from the following note in Minhage Mitsrayim OH 2:נוהגים לכרוך באויר ראשון שבעה כריכות כו' - ומנהגנו לכרוך על פי מנין אותיות הוי"הHe cites the Erekh Lehem 11:14 and Ba'er Heteb 11:24, both of which simply state that the minhag is 10-5-6-5 without explanation. They are responding to Maran who says 7-8-11-13
