I was going to respond to so much here displayed separately, but I rather do it in one shot.-- Although I think the issues of minghag and the Iberian anussím are important, and very part of our tradition, I think the Intellectual aspect has been falling by the wayside. Let's pay more attention to that, please.-- It is all to sad, to say the least, about some opinions being reflected about the modern-day Conversos (i.e. Iberian anussím). Just barely 70 years ago Hahám David de Sola Pool and the London S&P community were heavily involved in helping the recent returnees of Oporto (Portugal) -- WITHOUT CONVERSION! Hahám de Sola HIMSELF took them their first Sefer Toráh in 400 years. We cannot say the like of ANY community or major rabbi today. The contra-opinions found in these threads just comes to show how "assimilated" some of us have become to NON-Sephardic ways of thinking. -- In keeping with Williams intention's of this group, let's not argue with each other about things that are beyond our capacities of knowing or arguing about, and let's put our heads together to start organizing material, and ways to promote it -- beyond peripheral things like music, food and folkish customs.
