I had a fabulous moment of Gen Z approval for our minhag this morning. Our school is hosting a flag football tournament, and players for another team joined us for Shaharit. The tefillot and most football players are Ashkenazi, but it is known that I read Torah if no student wants to read, and this week no student wanted to read. Therefore the players on the visiting team heard me read in our minhag, with the following dialogue ensuing:[Student who went up Yisrael:] Rabbi, what is your trope?[RM:] It's Portuguese[Student:] so, not Sephardi?[RM:] more of a Western Sephardi than an Eastern one[Student:] it was so Rage! I've never heard anything like it!(Inter alia, this is not how "rage" is used in our school, but his tone and body language signaled high approval)
