Posting on behalf of Peter Nahon....Ladies and gentlemen, dear colleagues, dear friends,I am pleased to announce the release of my book entitled:Gascon and French among the Israelites of Aquitaine. Documents and Lexical Inventory. Paris, Classics Garnier, 441 pages. This study examines, for the first time, the linguistic history of the so-called Portuguese Jews of South-West France. After adopting the Gascon language, this group forged a linguistic identity by borrowing strong Hebrew words, Spanish and other languages, conveyed in particular by the synagogal liturgy on which rested the cohesion of the group. This Judaïsé Gascon, in which rare surviving rare texts survived, gave place during the nineteenth century to a French language rich with more than 850 particularisms, of which a lexicographic and lexicological inventory is drawn up by relating the ancient sources to the fruits of a field survey started in 2014 with the last speakers. Those who will be in Paris on Tuesday, December 11, are warmly invited to the book launch party, which will take place at the classics Garnier bookstore, at 6, rue de la Sorbonne (5th arrondissement), from 18:30 .A presentation conference will also take place, under the auspices of the Gascon Academy of Bayonne, the Basque Museum and the history of Bayonne, January 10 at 18h.The book will soon be available in bookstores and on the website of Classiques Garnier; it can already be ordered from the publisher by return of the order form attached. With my best salutations,Peter Nahon
