It creates a kind of musical hallmark that identifies a particular holiday or season, and is especially evident in the repertoire of the Yamim Nora’im.The melody of Hashem Bekol Shofar, for example, is also used both for the piyyut Lema’anka Elohai and the Hayom Harat Olam formula. Similarly, the Yedei Rashim Lachan serves as the setting for En Kelohenu, Adon Olam, and Kaddish Yehe Shelama Rabba among others.Another example of this practice, found among the Edot HaMizrach and communities of North African provenance, is that during the penitential season the melody for the piyyut Yah Shema Ebyonekha is commonly applied to Ra’u Banim Et Geburato following the Keriyat Shema in Arbit.Although this particular adaptation has not yet entered the Spanish and Portuguese tradition, it may be a move worth considering. The Amsterdam tradition preserves a distinctive version of the Yah Shema melody, and the present recording offers a glimpse of how this adaptation might sound within that framework.תזכו לשנים רבות
