I challenge those of this distinguished group to come up with a 1-5 page essay on why the Sephardic heritage needs to be continued in countries other than Spain where they originated. My 3 sons (10,12,14) and my wife and I live in an area where the only Sephardic interests are Bucharian. I've tried telling my children how important their Sephardic heritage is, but not living in a Sephardic community (other than that listed) is very challenging. There must be something of more Judaically intrinsic to our people than language, customs and food. Otherwise, let's just be Ashkenazic.I was once informed by a friend that there are, indeed, qualitative differences between Sephardic and Ashkenazim as seen in their prayers and community interactions, but don't remember what they are. I will make that inquiry and report back. Meanwhile, anything of quality and meaning will be most welcome.
