https://youtu.be/lHfTfUGWozY# Yodukha Ra’yonai | Amsterdam - New YorkThis Piyyut, written by R.Yisrael Najara (c.1555–1625), is sung as a Shabbat table song in the Amsterdam and New York communities. A variant, known as ‘the Dutch melody’ serves as a setting for Adon Olam in the Sephardi community of Gibraltar. Somewhat exceptionally for the Spanish and Portuguese tradition, the melody is based on the ’Spanish Phrygian’ or ‘Andalusian’ scale. In the Mizrahi world this modality is known as ‘Maqam Hijaz’, and in the lexicon of Ashkenazi Hazzanut, Freygish or Ahava Rabbah. Please like and share.
