https://youtu.be/uN6LvTD2uq8# Kamti Lehallel | AmsterdamThis Piyyut is one of the many musical treasures bequeathed to me by my beloved teacher and friend Abraham Lopes Cardozo (z’l). Largely unknown outside the Netherlands, it is sung in Amsterdam, both as a Bakkashah before the Shabbat morning service, and as a table song at home. Its earliest appearance was in a collection of Bakkashot published in Constantinople in 1545, and its first Amsterdam printing was in 1661. The origins of the melody, which has no counterpart elsewhere in the tradition, are unknown.Kamti Hallel is one of the 21 selections on my recently released album ‘Shabbat Zemirot in the Spanish and Portuguese Tradition’, available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and all major streaming platforms.
