He was one o=f the most original and interesting rabbis of the 20th century, and wrote o=n many aspects of halakha and Jewish thought. In addition, he was active as=a public leader, both on the local and the national levels.=20Some aspects of his rich and diverse published legacy have attracted schola=rly attention, but much more remains to be brought to light, researched and=analyzed. With this in mind, we have decided (sixty years after his deceas=e) to convene an academic conference devoted to the halakhic and ideational=creativity of Rabbi Uzziel and to his wide ranging activities in the publi=c sphere.=20The conference will be held at Bar Ilan University from Sunday evening Octo=ber 20th=A02013 through Tuesday afternoon, October 22nd.=20It is our intention to publish a volume of articles written on the basis of=papers presented at the conference. Articles will be included in the volum=e after peer review.=20We invite proposals for presentation of original previously unpublished res=earch on all aspects of rabbi Uzziel's writings and public activities. His philosophical and ideational wr=itings include Hegyonnei Uzziel (two volumes) and Derashot Uzziel (on Ethic=s of the=A0Fathers). His thought and values find expression also in Mikhman=ei Uzziel (six volumes) - that also reflects his wide ranging involvement i=f public affairs. Legal decisions, response, letters and other documents au=thored by Rabbi Uzziel and relating to him may be found in various public a=rchives. He was also referred to and quoted in newspapers and journals publ=ished in Israel and abroad, as well as in writings by rabbinical peers and =other contemporaries.
