For those interested, the Seforim Podcast has had a number of Historians speaking about Spanish Jewry and the inquisitions over the last few weeks. There is much new information in these podcasts based on the records that were only uncovered in the last 30 years post Franco's death and the general opening of the archive. I'm particularly intrigued by the Inquisition in Castile and the dynamics of the early converso communities, and how they interacted with those who converted later in time. The historians in these podcasts do not necessarily agree with each other. The Podcasts list some of the seminal texts and books and make emails available. I've corresponded with a few historians about the particular subject of the term "Marrano." I'll write this up separately, but in no way is there agreement that this was a pejorative, and it was almost certainly used by converso's to describe themselves. Enjoy the podcasts, and I'm curious to hear what people think.
