This essay touches on various things I've been discussing recently in Abraham's Tent, however one thing it also touches on which has come up recently is amulets. I'm very curious what people think about how geographical, cultural and historical context play into the hashkafic persuasion of our sorts of Jews in comparison to others? In other words, are we more or less likely to put any stock whatsoever into woo woo and heeby-jeeby stuff (as some my describe them) or in Jew-Doo as I used to frequently say or is there an underlying basis for hashkafa that transcends all that? If that's the case, I would expect to find various sorts of Jews in vastly different time periods, locales, cultures, etc with a strikingly similar outlook in this regard. Srurely there are, but I don't see a whole lot of it. Please help me fill in the blanks.
