Not sure if this fits better in the debate group, or not, but Sfarad.es published yesterday, due to being March 26, this biographical note of R' David de Aaron de Sola.The article says (I quote): At Bevis Marks, the Society for the Cultivation of Hebrew Literature proposed to him before the mahamad... to be the one who every week would give a drasha in English and not in Spanish. And so it was that on March 26, 1831, the Sephardic Jews of London began to listen to sermons in the language of Shakespeare. These sermons were subsequently published by the mahamad itself and are characterized by their plain style, so that they could be understood by the greatest number of listeners and readers.The author said in the facebook post: This was a decisive step in the abandonment of Spanish by the Western Sephardic community.
