This is another great episode of Sforim Chatter. This time, Professor Jonathan Schorsch discusses Antonio de Montezinos. He has some interesting commentary on Western Sephardim. De Montezinos (Aharon HaLevi) was a Portuguese converso who convinced Menaseh Ben Israel that he had discovered one of the lost tribes in Ecuador. He wrote *Esperança de Israel. *He appears to be an influence on Ben Israel. Worth the listen, and curious to hear what people knew about de Montezinos. Prof Schorsch is also the author of Jews and Blacks in the Early Modern World and The Underground World of Secret Jews and Africans.
