https://youtu.be/Nn5OED07CEs# Shir Hama’alot Hineh - Psalm 134 | LondonThe standard practice amongst Sephardim is to preface the formal beginning of Arbit with the chanting of verses from Tehilim. This custom is based on an opinion found in Masechet Soferim and later rulings by medieval authorities. In the case of the Spanish and Portuguese tradition the text selected for weekday evenings is chapter 134 followed by nine additional Pesukim. These readings serve a similar purpose to the Zemirot recited before Shachrit, facilitating a transition to the spiritual sensibility appropriate to the reading of the Shema and the Amidah. The melody in this recording is from the London Spanish and Portuguese community and is based on an ancient psalmodic chant. Please like and share, and if you haven’t already, please subscribe to my YouTube channel. For an mp3 of this recording please visit my website, where there are over 190 selections available for free downloading.
