There is a morning beracha that always gave me the feeling of being perplexed. It is the "shelo asani goy" one. I understand the rational behind the three berachot to give thanks for the male Jewish identity. Fine to me. But the word "goy" doesn't make any sense to me since it means literally "people". What is the wording in the Talmud? Do you know the history behind? Are there any alternatives? Is "nochry" a better word since it is more accurate in Biblical Hebrew? Is it beeing censored? And finally, what is the trully S & P way of saying it? Thanks in advance for al the input.
