Thank you for accepting me into this group. I was told by a friend years ago that my mother's surname is probably of Sephardic origin, Mercado. I checked the surnames of both sides of my family including great grandparents and found that all names appear on lists such as those found on Sephardim.com, etc. I'm not sure how reliable the sites are but Mercado, Escobar, Paez, del Villar, Casas, De la Barrera all appear. From what I've been told, all were Spaniards who migrated to the Caribbean coast of Colombia and have been there for many generations. If there is any information about Colombia's Sephardic community I'd appreciate hearing about it. Thank you.
