Any idea how the Meldola family got their name? It seems clear (?) that the origins of the family are in Spain, and even though in Mantova they seem to have been considered considered Italian, in other places they belonged to Sephardic communities. But there are extremely few records of a Jewish presence in Meldola, and I haven't seen any evidence that family members stayed there. Is it possible that the name was Mendola (as some descendants called themselves) but it was misspelled in Italy?
