For those who have Sephardic family members in early (or even later!) New York, I wanted to call attention to a newly enriched awesome online resource: the fully digitized New York, Probate Records, 1629-1971. In the past week, they just added 8,613,673 images added to this collection, increasing this collection’s images by 63 percent. They are organized by county, so if you are looking for NY city, the relevant counties are New York County (Manhattan), Kings County (Brooklyn), Bronx County (The Bronx), Richmond County (Staten Island), and Queens County (Queens). Like with the old microfilm, to find people click on the relevant county, the scroll down to the INDEX for the type of document you want to find. E.g. the Gomez family wills begin to be listed on p. 378 of Wills index 1662-1910 vol E-H. This list will then tell you where to find the actual entries. If people have questions about what the different types of documents are or how you might use them/what they could tell you, let me know and I will post and example and start a discussion.
