JODEN SAVANNE - JEWISH SAVANNAH - SURINAM This 17th century settlement on the Surinam River was created in large part by Sephardim from Brazil. There is a possibility that some of Itamaracá's Jewish Congregation moved here via Cayenne in 1645 when the Insurreção Pernambucana erupted.
