Hi, I have a question, sorry the context will take some review. My 4th great grandmother was the mulatto daughter (freed) of a slave. Such persons getting baptized afforded them a boost in society at the time. So it was important for her and for her children. My grandfather was an elder in the synagogue and remain so until near his death at 77yrs in 1862, I have found this from a few of the published synagogue records - I do NOT have access to the actual records. As far as my research goes, she was they only woman in his life. QUESTION: 1. Could he have maintained his status considering his children were anglican, so long as they remained unmarried, or is it possible that she was a crypto-Jew and his children likewise. 2. If they were not, crypto-Jews, would there be any reference to them in the synagogue records - where would I look.
