I am grateful to David Mendoza for accepting me into this group. I am originally from Spain but currently reside in the United States. I have been researching the Cansino* family for some time now, both for genealogical and historical purposes. I am interested in documenting and understanding the diaspora of the Jewish and the converted branches of this particular family, which proved to be particularly successful in spite of the great adversity their members often faced. They were famous for being the interpreters of the Spanish monarchs in Oran, after going into exile after 1492, as well as scholars, poets and translators. So far, I have traced them to Andalusia, Algeria, Gibraltar, Minorca, Livorno, Manchester, Morocco, Salonika, and the New World. Tips and informations are always welcome. *Also spelled as Cancino, Canzino, Cansyno, Cansinos, Cansynos and Cançino.
