May I ask what the general membership requirements were for joining the Portuguese Jewish synagogues in Amsterdam during the 18th century? While researching my Cohen Lobattos, I find, for example, one Isaac Cohen Lobatto (with no patronym stated) in the fintas and ofertas for the year 1759 (Inventory 277 of the Amsterdam Archives) when I know from research that there could be several Isaac Cohen Lobattos of mature age living in Amsterdam at the time. If I find a member listed in a register without a patronym, can I assume he is the only member by that name in the synagogue membership? Many thanks for your advice!
