This is more of historical than genealogical interest, although it might explain where some of the families disappeared to ! This text is by the french priest Du Tertre describing the arrival of the Dutch to the french caribbean islands, after their expulsion from Brazil in 1654 They were rejected for being 'heretics' by the jesuit priests of Martinique, but accepted in Guadeloupe, where they and their 'riches' were welcomed.
